わたしは主に風景をモチーフに絵画を描いています。
普段の生活の中にあるような、身近な風景をモチーフに用い、奇妙な感覚を感じるような絵です。
わたしがいつも感じている不思議な感覚を、絵に表したいと思っています。
わたし達の根底に流れているリズムや静けさ、空間のひろがりを、
風景を用いて立ち表すことを探求しています。
わたしのモチーフが風景である理由に、わたしが日常において、
場所や空間の情報を敏感に感じ取る性質が挙げられます。
その場所の雰囲気や、そこに居る人々の様子などの情報です。
わたしは、一見物言わぬ風景が、なぜこうも様々な性格があるのかと、いつも不思議に思っています。
使用する画材は、アクリル絵具が多いです。油彩、鉛筆、色鉛筆、ペンも使用します。
美術大学で版画を学んだため、版画も制作します。技法はシルクスクリーンです。
わたしが目指しているのは、“感覚を開く”絵です。
わたしはわたしの作品が、このようであったらと願っています。
―わたしたちが忘れてしまった、魔法のような何か―
作品を見れば、いつでもその不思議な感覚にアクセス出来る。
見るひとの人生にどのようなことが起こっていても、
作品を見れば、いつでもそのひと自身の中心を思い出せる。
そして、そのひとが作品を見る前と後では、少し違う自分に変化している。
そのひとの細胞が組み変わったみたいに。
そんなふうに、わたしの作品が、静けさとつながり、
感覚が開いてゆく装置のようであれたらと願っています。
絵を元に制作しているグッズは、ふと見るとちょっとだけゴキゲンになったり、
和やかになったり、リラックスしたり、自由な気持ちになったり…。
少しでも、手にして下さった方の力になれたらと思いながら作っています。

Aki Setoh is a painter from Chiba, Japan.
She mainly uses landscapes as motifs in her paintings.
She uses familiar landscapes from our everyday life as motifs, but they give a strange feeling to the viewer.
She wants to express the strange feelings she feels in her paintings.
She explores the use of landscapes to represent the rhythm, stillness and spatial expanse that underlie us all.
Her motifs are landscapes because she is sensitive to the information of places and spaces in her everyday life.
Information such as the atmosphere of a place and the people in it.
She has always wondered why seemingly silent landscapes have such a variety of personalities.
Aki Setoh uses acrylic paint as her painting medium. She also uses oil paints, pencils, coloured pencils and pens.
She also makes prints, having studied printmaking at art college. Her technique is screen printing.
Her aim is to create paintings that "open the senses".
She wishes her work was like this.
Whenever the viewer looks at her work, he or she can access something magical that we have forgotten.
No matter what is going on in the viewer's life, her work always reminds them of their own centre.
And the person is transformed into a slightly different person before and after seeing her work.
It's as if their cells have been recombined.
She hopes that her work will be like a device that connects with silence and opens up the senses.

Graduated from Musashino Art University,
